With the pivotal 2024 elections in the headlights, the Brooklyn Democratic Party’s annual event aimed to boost support among the 1.3 million-plus registered Democrats in the borough with everything from the presidential election to local seats up for grabs.
However, there was much more than just electoral energy at the event, whose focus was also on generously spreading the holiday spirit.
The party’s toy drive, which was promoted across the borough through District Leaders, collected over 10 large bags of holiday gifts for families. “We’re proud to spread love the Brooklyn way by doing whatever we can to uplift Brooklynites in need during the holidays – and all year long,” she added.
Toys were distributed among district leaders to get into the right hands in all corners of the borough.
Working to ‘Keep Brooklyn Blue’
Referring to the ever-growing ranks of Democrats in power hailing from Brooklyn, Bichotte Hermelyn also spoke on “harnessing momentum” of recent Democratic wins from November’s general election, such as New York City Councilmember Chris Banks, who successfully primaried the dynastic Charles Barron after five attempts in Brooklyn’s East New York district, and Susan Zhuang, who toppled Republican contenders for the open race for Brooklyn’s District 43 City Council’s seat; among other wins.
“Although the elections [general November elections) ended just two months ago, as the nation’s leading Democratic county party, we never rest, and we’ve already had our sights on 2024,” the party chair added. “The excitement and support is palpable here this evening as we work to keep Brooklyn blue by harnessing that energy.”
