STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Those looking to bask in confetti among the cheerful masses in Times Square on New Year’s Eve can breathe a little easier, as early AccuWeather forecasts indicate a dry, typical December evening.
As of this moment, revelers ringing in the new year will not have to worry about the weather in NYC, as reported by an early AccuWeather forecast for the area. NYC is slated to experience traditional December temperatures with a high of 42 in the day, and a low of 30 in the night, just around the time for that midnight kiss.
“As far as New Year’s Eve is concerned, it doesn’t look like there’s anything special in the weather department going on,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines said.
Last year, Mother Nature quite literally rained on the parade of those gathering at the heart of the city. However, this year, those braving the chill air and crowds will be happy to hear that the evening looks to remain dry at this moment, according to AccuWeather.
Despite this hopeful early outlook, Kines notes not to fully rule out the possibility of precipitation.
“By December standards it’s (the weather on New Years Eve) not bad. Temperature-wise it’s pretty typical, but we all know that it could either be raining or snowing at that time. From this far out, it doesn’t look like it will be doing anything.”
Although early, Kines forecasts some potential precipitation in the area either Friday or Saturday before New Year’s Eve, which falls on a Sunday this year.
