The Yates County History Center is set to open a new exhibit titled “Lakelife: Communities Shaped by Water” at the L. Caroline Underwood Museum early next year, thanks to a Quick Grant from Humanities New York.
This exhibit will explore the historical and cultural significance of the Finger Lakes — particularly Keuka, Seneca, and Canandaigua — in shaping the communities of Yates County. It aims to provide an in-depth study of how these lakes have been utilized by the local population over thousands of years and their influence on the region’s lifestyle and culture.
The exhibit’s realization is also supported by a generous contribution from Barrett Marine Inc., a Waterloo-based business specializing in recreational boating in the Finger Lakes. This financial support underscores the community’s investment in preserving and showcasing the historical relationship between Yates County and its surrounding lakes.
“Lakelife: Communities Shaped by Water” promises to offer visitors a unique perspective on the profound impact of these natural water bodies on the area’s development and identity.
