The Giants suffered a gut-punch loss at the Eagles on Christmas.
But they’re now in pretty darn good position for the 2024 NFL Draft, as they prepare to perhaps use a premium pick on a quarterback to eventually replace Daniel Jones.
The Giants are 5-10 and have lost two straight games. They finish with the Rams (8-7) and Eagles (11-4) — both at home. So they could certainly lose both of those.
With that in mind, here’s the latest top of the draft, via Tankathon:
1. Bears (from Panthers, 2-13)
2. Cardinals, 3-12
3. Commanders, 4-11
4. Patriots, 4-11
5. Giants, 5-10
6. Chargers, 5-10
7. Titans, 5-10
8. Bears, 6-9
9. Jets, 6-9
Those are all the teams with six wins or fewer.
The Giants have the strength of schedule advantage over the Chargers and Titans, which is why they’re ahead of them.
The Giants also have the strength of schedule advantage over the Commanders and Patriots. Is it possible, then, for the Giants to climb to the No. 3 overall pick?
Well, they’d need help from Washington and New England — with at least one more win by both teams. Washington closes with the 49ers and Cowboys. Hard to imagine the Commanders winning either game. New England closes with the Bills and Jets. The Patriots could win one of those.
So while the No. 3 overall pick seems unlikely for the Giants, No. 4 is not out of reach. Of course, the Giants would need to do their part — and continue losing.
