STEWART AIRPORT – Anyone who traveled over Christmas through one of the Port Authority’s three major jetports faced long lines, takeoff and landing delays, and other time-consuming issues.
Then there is New York Stewart International Airport at Newburgh with few airlines, short lines and no hassle.
The chairman of the advisory Stewart Airport Commission, Paul Quartararo, is lobbying to have some of the airlines using the Big Three airports to shift some service to the Hudson Valley.
“There are 3,000 flights a day going out of the Port Authority airports in (New York) city and that’s maxed out, so the question is how do you lure or entice an airline to Stewart when they like where they are,” he said. “If there is an environmental aspect that works for them, maybe that is something of interest to them.”
Quartararo said if airlines flew into Stewart, they would be saving the environment and even cut down on overall travel time.
