With the extended public comment period on the Kensington Expressway project closing Nov. 10, one day away, the State Department of Transportation revealed in its monthly, invite-only stakeholder meeting that a majority of people opposed the project โ 359 against, 322 in favor and 124 considered neutral.
Mounting voices against the project as now planned are calling for a more comprehensive study to consider other options and provide additional information before a final decision is made.
Hours later, to the surprise of many in attendance, an employee from the State Department of Transportationโs East Side outreach office, without asking permission, distributed prewritten letters of support for the project in the Delavan-Grider Community Center. The occasion was a public meeting hosted by the East Side Parkways Coalition, a group critical of the project.
โI just want to make sure people hear all sides,โ coalition member Greg Delaney said Janate โSolarโ Ingram told him as she put the letters on tables where people were sitting.
