In a major healthcare development, UR Medicine Thompson Health’s executive leadership has announced their decision to integrate with the UR Medicine Sleep Center as a satellite office. This change is set to take effect by the end of April 2024. The Sleep Center, currently located on Parrish Street in Canandaigua, will move to a new, yet-to-be-disclosed location within Ontario County.
The new site will feature clinic spaces dedicated to sleep disorders and will specialize in providing home sleep apnea tests, which constitute 90 percent of patient sleep testing. For more complex cases requiring in-lab sleep studies, patients will be referred to UR Medicine’s main sleep lab in Rochester. To enhance patient care, an additional sleep medicine-trained physician will be appointed in Ontario County.
Michael F. Stapleton, Jr., President and CEO of Thompson, assured that this transition is designed to maintain continuity in patient care without major disruptions. The move aims to consolidate resources within the UR Medicine network, enhancing the quality and cost-effectiveness of the services offered.
Established in 1992 and initially located within the hospital, Thompson’s Sleep Disorders Center has a long-standing history of service. Patients currently undergoing treatment have been informed about the change. Additionally, staff at the Center are being offered alternative positions within the UR Medicine system.
To ensure transparency and compliance with New York State Department of Health standards, Thompson executives have prepared a comprehensive plan for this initiative. Furthermore, an open forum for associates and community members is scheduled for January 17, 2024, to discuss this significant change. The meeting will take place in the hospital’s George M. Ewing, Jr. Conference Room, accessible via The Thompson Way off West Street.
