Major retirement from the Ithaca Police Department

Lieutenant Jake Young has officially retired from the Ithaca Police Department (IPD) after 17 years of distinguished service. During his tenure, he earned the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant, contributing significantly to the department and the Ithaca community.

Throughout his career, Lieutenant Young held various vital roles. He supervised the Patrol Division, acting at times as the Captain and Deputy Chief. His responsibilities extended to being a member of the Traffic Unit, serving as the Administrative Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, and the Training Coordinator. Youngโ€™s commitment to law enforcement was further exemplified by his leadership as the commander of both the Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team and the Ithaca-Tompkins Specialized Response Team.

Renowned for revolutionizing and updating the police training curriculum, Lieutenant Young played a critical role in enhancing IPDโ€™s training programs, establishing them as some of the finest in New York State.

His retirement was acknowledged by Thomas Condzella, President of the Ithaca PBA. Condzella expressed a mix of gratitude and regret, noting the irreplaceable nature of Youngโ€™s extensive experience and institutional knowledge. He emphasized the challenges in recruitment and the difficulty in replacing a figure like Lieutenant Young.
