New York City’s snowless streak has continued after Saturday’s winter storm brought not fresh white powder to the five boroughs, but only a pitiful smattering of gray slush.
The National Weather Service reported two-tenths of an inch of snow collected in Central Park overnight.
Sunday marked the 693rd straight day where less than an inch fell in the city, extending the longest snow drought on record in New York.
“Last year was the lowest snowfall year on record in the city,” said NWS meteorologist Bryan Ramsey. “Right now we’ve been tracking unfavorably for snowfall and more favorably for rain… We’re kind of in a warmer pattern the last few years.”
The NWS on Sunday morning said trace amounts of snow would fall throughout the day, but nowhere near an inch.
Charity Myers said she was disappointed by the bleak, wet landscape in Brooklyn’s Irving Square Park. She’d hoped for a winter wonderland.
“I like snow,” said Myers. “We don’t get it that often anymore so I wish it was here just so I could have something nice to look at.”
The NWS did report significant snowfall outside of the city overnight, with White Plains clocking 2.8 inches and areas of the Hudson Valley seeing as much as 14 inches.
During a news conference on Sunday, Gov. Kathy Hochul said while there was no “real accumulation” in the five boroughs, conditions remained slushy and wet in other parts of the state and urged people to be cautious on the roads.
