Man charged with DWI under Leandra’s Law in Tompkins: Child under 10 inside vehicle

On January 7, 2024, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 29-year-old Jeremy M. Woodard from Brooktondale for driving while intoxicated. The arrest occurred at 11:39 a.m. on North Meadow Street, in Ithaca, after deputies pulled over Woodard for driving his Ford truck at an unsafe speed.

During the stop, deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana and observed signs of impairment in Woodard. Further investigation led deputies to conclude that Woodard was too impaired to operate a vehicle safely. Additionally, deputies found a ten-year-old child in the vehicle, who was not properly secured with a seat belt.

Woodard faces multiple charges, including Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Driving While Intoxicated with a Child in the Vehicle (a felony), and several vehicle violations.

He has been issued tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ithaca Court on January 31, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
