In 2014, New York City began implementing the ambitious traffic safety initiative known as Vision Zero. The plan to get pedestrian deaths and serious injuries down to zero was first implemented in Sweden in 1997. Claes Tingvall, a retired official from the Swedish Transport Administration, was involved in its development from the beginning. He’s sometimes referred to as the “Godfather of Vision Zero”, and he joins WNYC Morning Edition host, Michael Hill .
