Some of the best outfield prospects in the Yankees’ farm system over these last few years have been added to the organization via the international market.
There’s Jasson Domínguez, an out-of-this-world prospect that signed a record-setting deal with the Yankees worth $5.1 million in 2019. If the Dominican’s first impression in pinstripes this past fall is any indication, Domínguez is here to stay (once he returns from Tommy John surgery). Cuban outfielder Brando Mayea signed for $4.35 million with the club this time last year. He’s now a top-10 prospect in the Yankees’ system, per MLB Pipeline.
Francisco Vilorio is next on that list.

The Yankees agreed to terms with Vilorio — a 17-year-old outfielder from the Dominican Republic — as the 2024 international signing period began on Monday. Vilorio’s deal is said to be worth approximately $1.7 million, according to the New York Post.
MLB Pipeline has Vilorio ranked as the 15th-best international prospect in this year’s signing period. Here’s a snippet of their scouting report on the slugging outfielder:
Vilorio is a tall, projectable outfielder with power potential and the ability to impact the game in various ways. The athletic teen has a solid bat tool and has a chance to hit for average and power in the future. He already shows emerging raw power and more strength should come as his body matures.
Overall, he projects to be a middle-of-the-order bat and an offensive threat if he continues to develop at the expected pace. His offensive potential makes him valuable, but he’s also improving on the other side of the ball. On defense, Vilorio is toolsy enough to start in center field and just might stay there. There’s also a chance he outgrows the position and moves to a corner spot.
