First-year guard Alex Moesch scored 15 points to lead the Hobart College basketball team at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this evenings. However, the Engineers used a big second half to score a 77-54 Liberty League win over the Statesmen.
Moesch was 7-of-13 shooting with a 3-pointer. He was joined in double figures by junior forward Carter Meshanic, who logged 14 points and a team-high six rebounds.
RPI put five players in double digits led by Dylan Matchett’s game-high 17 points. He sank three of the Engineers’ 12 3-pointers. Andrew Deppe scored 10 points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

- RPI outrebounded Hobart 38-33, the first team to outrebound the Statesmen since Dec. 2.
- The Engineers shot 45.3% from the floor, 34.3% beyond the arc, while limiting Hobart to 37.7% from the floor, 18.8% from deep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen trailed by just one after Hunter Meshanic’s layup with 2:19 remaining in the first half.
- Matchett buried a 3-pointer to send RPI into the break with a 37-33 lead.
- The Engineers rode an 8-0 run to start the second half to a 45-33 advantage. Jonny Angbazo accounted for six of his 14 points during the surge.
- Hobart closed to within nine on a pair of free throws by first-year Dorian Paki with just over 12 minutes to go.
- RPI squashed the visitors’ comeback hopes with a 13-2 run that stretched the home team’s lead to 20.

- The Statesmen will continue their road trip with a swing through the North Country this weekend. Hobart will take on St. Lawrence (9-4, 5-2) Friday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. then on Saturday, tipoff at Clarkson (9-4, 4-3) is set for 4 p.m.
