Theodore LaFrance, a restaurant owner from Hornell, has been sentenced for committing tax fraud. Pleading guilty in September, LaFrance has now received a sentence that includes two years of probation and six months of home detention. Additionally, he is ordered to pay $36,040 in restitution to the IRS.
U.S. Attorney Trini Ross stated that LaFrance was convicted of aiding or assisting in the preparation of a false or fraudulent tax return from 2014 to 2018. His fraudulent activities were connected to his operation of a restaurant in Hornell, where he misrepresented staff payments.
The case, handled by U.S. Attorney Meghan McGuire, revealed that LaFrance’s actions led to a tax loss of approximately $36,040.74. He had underreported $235,560.42 in wages over a four-year period. This sentencing serves as a reminder of the legal consequences of tax evasion and fraudulent financial reporting.
