Scholastic Roundup: Bushwick High takes a big hit, courtesy of Brooklyn Tech

Bushwick High suffered its biggest defeat this season earlier this month.

It was the victim of a tough 58-36 defeat at the hands of Brooklyn Tech. The result shouldnโ€™t come as a shock, considering thatโ€™s the fewest points Bushwick has scored all season.

It was another big night for Techโ€™s Troy Hornbeck, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds. The Engineers also got some help courtesy of Baseer Mirza, who scored eight points along with two steals.

Tech upped its record to 7-5

W.J. Gaynor School posted its biggest victory yet this season last week. It topped Sunset Park, 68-46. The win put an end to Gaynorโ€™s five-game losing streak. Sunset Park falls to 2-7 with the loss, which was its sixth-straight at home dating back to last season.

As for Bushwick, it was its third-straight loss on the road and bumped its record down to 1-8. And Gaynor is now now 4-6.

This from Glenn Thomas, FDR High boysโ€™ basketball coach: โ€œIn all my years of coaching basketball on various levels,โ€ he writes, โ€œThis was a first.

โ€œA girlsโ€™ basketball game at our school (FDR) was temporarily interrupted due to a cockroach running around just underneath the visiting teamโ€™s bench. Needless to say, all bedlam had broken loose. Luckily, I was sitting in the corner of the gym and was able to go over and rid the little friend from our gym.โ€

By the way, Fort Hamilton topped FDR, 44-20.

Thomas has a dining tip as well: โ€œFor my Brooklyn friends, I had dinner at Barbalu on Bergen Street between Smith and Court streets in Cobble Hill. The owners are from Italy, they and their staff are super-friendly and the food is absolutely delicious.

โ€œI highly recommend it. If youโ€™re like me and love pizza, this is the place for you.โ€
