Herons blank Vikings 3-0

The William Smith College ice hockey team defeated Salem State University 3-0 in a New England College Hockey contest at Rockett Arena this evening. With the win, the Herons are now 13-4-1 overall with an 8-2-1 mark in conference play.

Three different players scored a goal in the win for William Smith. Seniorย Annie Hauserstopped all 15 shots she faced as she earned her second shutout of the year.

Kaia Hollingsworth played all 60 minutes in goal for the Vikings (5-12-1, 2-8-1). She made 47 saves.

  • Seniorย Mackenzie Oโ€™Neilย opened the scoring at the 8:10 mark of the first period. She wristed a shot from the slot past Hollingsworth for her eighth goal of the season. Juniorsย Annabel Ziskinย andย Kayla Ketchabawย had assists on the power-play goal.
  • Sophomoreย Kelly Howeย gave William Smith a 2-0 lead. She wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle into the back of the net. Her ninth goal of the season was assisted by seniorย Sydney Fosterย and first-yearย Seneca Urban.
  • Ketchabaw wrapped up the scoring with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. She picked up a rebound and flipped the loose puck over Hollingsworthโ€™s right leg. The goal was Ketchabawโ€™s team-leading 10th of the season.

William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 20, when it heads to Gorham, Maine to take on the University of Southern Maine. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ย
