Hauser stops 25, Herons top Huskies 2-0

William Smith College senior Annie Hauser stopped all 25 shots she faced as she lifted the Herons to a 2-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine in a New England Hockey Conference contest at the USM Ice Arena this afternoon. Today’s game was the second consecutive shutout for Hauser.

Senior Annabel Ziskin led William Smith (14-4-1, 9-2-1) with two assists. Senior Mackenzie O’Neil and junior Kayla Ketchabaw scored the goals for the Herons. Hauser’s shutout was her third of the season and William Smith’s fifth in the last six games.

Haley McKim played all 60 minutes in goal for the Huskies (10-7-2, 7-3-2). She made 32 saves.

STREAKING

  • William Smith has gone 11 straight games without allowing a power-play goal. After not allowing a goal on three Southern Maine power-play opportunities, the Herons are now 60-for-63 in killing off penalties this season.
  • William Smith has won nine straight road games, the longest active streak in Division III.

  • William Smith opened the scoring at the 16:39 mark of the first period. O’Neil wristed a shot past McKim for her ninth goal of the season. Ziskin had an assist on the power-play goal after sending a centering pass to O’Neil from below the goal line.
  • Ketchabaw added an insurance goal at the 16:47 mark of the third period. With the teams playing 4-on-4, Ketchabaw wristed a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle through McKim’s legs for her 11th goal of the season. Ziskin and Brittany Foster were awarded assists on the tally.
