STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Islanders can go ahead and throw that shovel back in the dusty corner of the garage because next week, mother nature has decided to take a break from pummeling us with snow, according to AccuWeather.
John Feerick, AccuWeather.com senior meteorologist, said a warmup will happen as we head into the upcoming week. Temperatures are expected to increase from 39 degrees on Monday to 56 degrees by Friday.
“We are going to have some precipitation, but it looks like that in the middle to the latter portion of the week,” Feerick said. “At that point it is warm enough that it looks like we will only be dealing with some rain.”
According to the weatherman, heavy rain and snow is out of the question for the week ahead.
Currently, it looks like it will be dry outside until Tuesday, Feerick predicted. On Tuesday, New Yorkers might see “a little bit of rain” at some point Tuesday evening although, it will be dry for the most part that day.
On Wednesday, Islanders will have to take out their umbrellas for sure, because there will be some patches of rain until Friday.
“It doesn’t look like we will have some real heavy rain between Wednesday and Friday,” said Feerick. “Maybe we will get an inch of rain that could cause some ponding on the roads. I don’t think we’re talking about a widespread flooding rain.”
Strong winds are also out of the question this upcoming week as well.
The rain New Yorkers will see during the latter half of the week will be brought on by a storm system that has been making its way across the Southeast. Currently, pieces of the weather system from storms in the Texas and Mississippi Valley region will break off and head Northeast toward us later in the week.
“We are not seeing the brunt of that storm we are kind of seeing the outskirts of that storm,” said Feerick.
