John Andrew Giorlando, 64, of Mariners Harbor, died Saturday, Jan. 20, following a brief battle with cancer. A lifelong Staten Islander, he graduated from St. John’s University and dedicated his career to social work. Additionally, he had a passion for music, showcasing his talents on both piano and guitar. In his youth, he played guitar in local bands, and he had a particular fondness for the Englishtown, N.J., flea market and the Prairie Home Companion Radio Show. Remembered for his magnetic personality, quick wit and welcoming spirit, Mr. Giorlando was also known for his generosity toward friends and strangers alike. A cat lover, he will be interred with the ashes of his two beloved cats who preceded him in death. For the full obituary, click here.
