For the last couple weeks residents in the Waterloo area have been asking: Why is the Dollar General store closed on 5&20?
The store, which has a condemned sign posted on the front door, has been closed to customers. A message from management doesn’t indicate a reopening date, but instructs vendors to contact them with any questions.
We reached out to Dollar General corporate communications to get an update on the store’s status. They shared the following:
“Dollar General’s store at 1328 Waterloo Geneva Road is currently closed as we address HVAC concerns. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause Seneca County customers, and we look forward to welcoming them back to our store soon.”
The statement wasn’t attributed to any individual person, but rather came from a nameless email account associated with Dollar General Corporate Public Relations.
No timeline for reopening was specified. However, this isn’t the first time that store has been closed. The store was temporarily closed for an unrelated matter in November 2022. In both cases now, the closure orders came from Seneca County Code Enforcement.
FingerLakes1.com reached out to county officials for comment on Dollar General’s status. They have not yet responded.
