Trial of accused drug impaired driver who killed veteran continues

POUGHKEEPSIE – The woman accused of killing a well-known military veteran while under the influence of drugs and driving recklessly, continued on Wednesday before Dutchess County Court Judge Jessica Segal.

Camay Price, 35, of Poughkeepsie is standing trial for vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs for her role in a September 7, 2022 accident in Pleasant Valley that claimed the life of Navy veteran Erin “Doc” Clancy.  The trial began on Monday and is being prosecuted by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.

On the morning of the accident, according to police testimony, Pryce was traveling east on Route 44 in Pleasant Valley and was in the process of illegally passing two vehicles when her Nissan Murano struck Clancy, who, evidence says, was trying to avoid the collision.

Clancy’s maneuvering was unsuccessful, and Pryce struck his minivan head-on, according to expert testimony offered on Wednesday by a New York State Police Accident investigator.  As a result of the crash, Clancy’s vehicle sustained “significant intrusion” into the passenger compartment, where he was trapped, and later pronounced dead at the scene.  Clancy’s widow and daughters left the courtroom before the jury was presented with photos of Clancy’s lifeless body in the vehicle at the scene and again at the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office later that day.

Pryce’s attorney, Ryanne Konan, attempted to question the state police investigator on Wednesday in what appeared to be an attempt to confuse the certified accident investigator, unsuccessfully.

Pryce was indicted by a Dutchess County Grand Jury on April 6, 2023, and a warrant for her arrest was issued on April 14, 2023.
