MONTREAL — Patrick Roy didn’t want his first game back at Bell Centre as Islanders coach to be about him. Other than a stirring moment during the Canadian national anthem, it wasn’t. Thursday night was about the home team’s quick start and his team’s comeback bid.
The Islanders scored twice on a five-minute power play in the third period but lost 4-3 on Sean Monahan’s winner at 17:48. Monahan’s goal came off a turnover by Pierre Engvall, his second of the night that led to a goal. Cole Caufield took it away from him at the half wall, fed Josh Anderson cross ice who gave it Monahan for the winner, his second of the night.
