Fire damages two-family house

BEACON – A two-alarm fire in a residence at 28 West Church Street in the City of Beacon early Friday damaged both floors of a two-family structure.

When firefighters arrived just three minutes after the call came in at 5:14 a.m., they were met by fire on the first and second floors with flames shooting out from several windows.

Beacon Fire Chief Thomas Lucchesi said though the building was undergoing renovations, one apartment was occupied but no one was home at the time of the fire.
Village of Fishkill and Castle Point fire departments responded to the scene.

Three Beacon firefighters sustained minor injuries while operating at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Beacon Police Department and the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division.

Dutchess County Car 17, City of Beacon Medic 1, Beacon Volunteer Ambulance, the city water, building and public works departments all provided assistance at the scene.

Glenham and Rombout fire departments provided standby cover for the city.
