Ding-ding-ding. Ring the bell. Round two of the Staten Island Borough President’s Cup went to Moore Catholic and Susan Wagner on Sunday night in Arrochar. The victories set the two schools on a direct path with one another, as they will next meet in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
The CHSAA No. 3 Mavericks used a noticeable size advantage to out-muscle PSAL No. 4 Curtis en route to a 51-29 triumph in the nightcap at St. Joseph Hill Academy. Former Moore athletic director and coach Gela Mikalauskas, who was also a former Advance All Star herself, was on hand to deliver the ceremonial jump ball before tip-off.
