Lidl, the discount grocery store chain, is set to open a 30,000-square-foot location at the Fulton Street Mall in Downtown Brooklyn next year.
The German retailer announced Monday that it had signed a long-term lease for the site located at 490 Fulton St., with an opening date slated for 2025, as it continues its expansion across the Big Apple.
Lidl is partnering with New York City-based real estate firm Crown Acquisitions to build the grocery store that will eventually take over the site currently occupied by the Express Factory Outlet.
The Downtown location will be the third Lidl store coming to Brooklyn, with a Crown Heights and Park Slope locations previously announced, though opening dates have yet to be confirmed
“Our reception in Manhattan and Queens has been outstanding,” said Or Raitses, senior director of real estate for Lidl. “We appreciate the enthusiasm for Lidl throughout New York City and look forward to offering our award-winning products to customers in Brooklyn.”
Lidl operates more than 12,000 stores in 32 countries, offering customers “high-quality” produce, choice meats, seafood, imported cheeses and more, as well as home appliances at a discounted price, according to the company’s website.
With more than 160 stores on the East Coast, the German retail giant will soon have a location in every corner of NYC, with stores now open in Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan. Last week, Lidl opened its second Queens store in Elmhurst.
Later this year, Lidl plans to open several more locations in Fresh Meadows, Glen Oaks, and in the Bronx Terminal Market.
