Sabres fall to Canadiens in shootout

The Buffalo Sabres picked up a valuable point but fell to the Montreal Canadiens, 4-3, in a six-round shootout on Monday night at KeyBank Center.

Buffalo led 3-2 after 40 minutes, but Montreal tied the game halfway through the third period to force overtime. After neither team scored in the extra period, Montreal won the shootout 2-1.

Lukas Rousek scored on his first shift in his NHL debut and later collected an assist. JJ Peterka netted his 10th goal of the season, and Riley Stillman added his first as a Sabre.

Eric Comrie stopped 38-of-41 shots and made four saves in the shootout.

The Sabres will be back in action on Friday when they host the New York Rangers at 7 p.m.
