STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Staten Island man has been arrested and charged several months after his alleged involvement in a fatal car crash in which a pedestrian was killed in Manhattan.
Mohammad Malik, 64, of Annadale, is facing a charge of failure to yield to a pedestrian following an incident in which he allegedly struck an 89-year-old man and 87-year-old woman as they were crossing Riverside Boulevard and West 70th Street.
Police say the accident occurred at around 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, and that an investigation by NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined Malik’s 2019 Cadillac Escalade was traveling southbound on Riverside Boulevard when it hit the couple. Malik remained at the scene.
89-year-old Leonard Sugin was admitted in stable condition to New York Presbyterian Weil Cornell Medical Center, but succumbed to his injuries on Nov. 24.
