Watch: New Mexico State basketball player breaks opponent’s nose with heinous sucker-punch

Get him out of here!

New Mexico State basketball player Robert Carpenter was ejected on Thursday night after delivering a heinous blow to an unsuspecting opponent. Following a made basket, Carpenter jostled with Liberty’s Shiloh Robinson on their way up the floor before the former socked the latter directly in the face with a heavy right hook.

The devastating blow sent Robinson to the deck, where he writhed in pain and received medical attention from a trainer. Carpenter, meanwhile, casually strutted off the floor after he was ejected.

Robinson was removed from the game and did not return. Coach Ritchie McKay acknowledged that the senior broke his nose on the dirty play. New Mexico State went on to win the game 79-73 in overtime.

“One of the most unjust things that I’ve ever seen or ever witnessed,” said McKay in his post-game press conference. “There’s no place for that in competition…I’m really disappointed.”

“He’ll be out for a while. He’s got a broken nose,” he added of Robinson’s status.

Carpenter’s despicable act took place midway through the first half. Both players had played just two minutes in the game.

Robinson, a senior, has averaged 5.0 points per game off the bench this season. Carpenter, a junior, is averaging 9.7 points for the Aggies.

Carpenter is expected to receive a lengthy suspension from Conference-USA.
