Jets’ Robert Saleh sticks a fork in Ezekiel Elliott rumor

It doesn’t seem like Ezekiel Elliott is becoming a New York Jet anytime soon.

Head coach Robert Saleh isn’t in the market for a new running back.

NJ Advance Media’s Andy Vasquez reports: Saleh on the possibility of adding Zeke Elliott: “We love our running back room. I’ll leave it at that.”

Elliott was released from the Cowboys earlier this month after seven seasons in Dallas and now looks to land with a new team. The 27-year-old went to the Pro Bowl in three of his first four seasons and in 2016 and 2018 rushed for more than 1,400 yards.

Thursday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Elliott had narrowed down his options to the Eagles, Jets and Bengals. But there were no reports that any of those teams has made an offer yet.

Bengals head coach Zach Taylor didn’t seem to know about Elliot’s interest before the report. He said Thursday night, per WCPO-TV Cincinnati:

“There’s a lot of great players that are available right now,” Taylor said. “We like our team as where it’s at right now. It’s always funny when things get thrown around. Sometimes it’s the first you hear of it, but that’s just the way life works.”

Rumors of a Jets-Elliott reunion had gained some traction. Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, an ESPN analyst, said last week that Elliott should sign with the Jets.

Last season, Elliott rushed the ball 231 times for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 3.8 yards per carry.
