Felony charges against Clyde-Savannah HS football players dropped in locker room assault case

A judge has dropped the most severe charges against three Clyde-Savannah High School football players involved in an alleged locker room assault. The incident, which took place on October 31 and was circulated on social media, led to the dismissal of felony aggravated sexual abuse charges by Judge Richard Healy. The players, however, still face misdemeanor charges for hazing and forcible touching.

Defense attorney Michael Schiano expressed relief at the reduction, emphasizing the significant shift from facing a violent felony to now only misdemeanor charges. Meanwhile, Acting Wayne County District Attorney Christine Callanan voiced the victimโ€™s familyโ€™s disappointment but affirmed her commitment to supporting the victimโ€™s recovery.

The community has been divided over the incident, with the accused facing significant public scrutiny. The case continues to unfold, with the defendants set to reappear in court on April 24, while a fourth suspect faces charges in family court.
