New York finally broke a dreary 11-day streak of cloudy skies on Saturday, and the National Weather Service predicts that clear, sunny weather is set to continue into next week.

Overcast, cloudy skies โ€“ albeit with little rainfall โ€“ had lingered over the city since Monday, Jan. 22, according to NWS meteorologist John Murray, who is based in New York.

On several occasions last week, clouds completely blocked out the sun over Central Park as well as JFK and LaGuardia airports, according to NWS daily climate reports.

The gloomy weather came to an end on Saturday after the clouds gave way to clear, sunny skies โ€” a phenomenon thatโ€™s expected to continue through at least Wednesday, Murray said.

โ€œThis is quite a bit of difference, compared to what we saw last week,โ€ Murray told Gothamist.

He also added that the higher-than-normal temperatures that have been common in New York City as of recently will also stick around into next week.

Highs generally ranged from the low-to-mid 40s at the end of January and into the start of February, Murray said, and the next few days will see many highs in the low 40s.

New York had more overcast conditions since Jan. 23 than notoriously gray Seattle, according to Fox Weather, with 97.8% average daylight cloud cover compared to Seattleโ€™s 93.3%.

Meanwhile, Buffalo in the western part of the state experienced overcast or partly cloudy skies every single day in January, according to Fox Weather.
