Two victims burned in overnight Poughkeepsie fire

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A fire just after 1:00 am Sunday on Lafko Drive sent two residents to the hospital with burns and displaced five adults and two canines.  The Arlington Fire Department was on the scene of the fire within minutes and requested a second alarm to bring additional manpower and apparatus into Arlington’s district.  Some departments responded to the scene while others were rerouted to Arlington fire stations to provide coverage in the district.

The initial search of the residence by firefighters resulted in a female burn victim in the living room.  The woman was evacuated and triaged outside until an ambulance was available to transport her to the hospital.  A second victim was also located and removed to awaiting EMS personnel for treatment and transport to a local hospital.

The fire, the bulk of which was located in the living room of the three-bedroom ranch-style home, was considered extinguished by fire officials at approximately 2:00 am Sunday.

The American Red Cross was notified to respond to the residence and assist the five displaced occupants and the two dogs.

The cause and actual origin of the fire is under investigation by the Arlington Fire District.
