Brooklyn police are investigating a shooting outside a popular gymnasium on Saturday night, it was reported.
Officers from the 75th Precinct rushed to the Brooklyn Sports Club inside Starrett City, at 1540 Van Siclen Ave., at around 10:07 p.m. on Feb. 3 after gunfire erupted outside the building, according to authorities.
Responding officers found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the right arm. EMS rushed the victim to Brookdale University Hospital, where he is expected to survive.
Sources familiar with the incident report that the unnamed victim refused to cooperate with police and did not provide details of the incident.
The Brooklyn Sports Club, which was closed at the time of the shooting, hosts a gym, youth after school programs, and a senior center for Spring Creek Towers’ residents, formerly known as Starrett City. Locals say shootings like these are not a common occurrence at that location.
“I heard multiple cop cars racing down Van Siclen Avenue towards the direction of the sports club. This doesn’t happen often, if anything the sounds of cop cars are usually heading in the opposite direction,” a nearby resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told amNewYork Metro.
Police sealed off the area during the preliminary investigation, finding three shell casings on the ground.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
