ORANGE COUNTY- The Alliance for Balanced Growth (ABG), a collaborative initiative comprised of business, real estate, local leaders, and the Orange County Partnership, continues its steadfast commitment to responsible development in Orange County. With a mission to represent a unified voice for thoughtful growth, the ABG has played a pivotal role in fostering community engagement and addressing crucial topics for the betterment of the region.
In 2023, the ABG focused on “Overcoming opposition through community engagement.” Our panel of experts emphasized the importance of education and proactive communication in addressing community concerns when a commercial project is proposed in a community. The outcome was the creation of a comprehensive “Best Practices Guide” to assist potential projects and municipal leaders
in navigating responsible development.
The ABG also delved into the imperative topic of “Construction & Development in the New Clean Energy Economy.” The expert panelists explored the current state of utilities, grid challenges, long term approaches, and implementation of clean energy practices. Notable figures such as Robert Sanchez (President & CEO, Orange & Rockland Utilities) and Christopher Capone (President & CEO, Central Hudson Gas & Electric) contributed valuable insights.
Looking ahead to 2024, the ABG led by Co-Chairs, Dan Depew of Holt Construction and Andrew Fetherston of Colliers Engineering, is determined to amplify the message that community leaders committed to economic development are vital for progress. The ABG plans to address critical issues such as the need to prioritize water and sewer infrastructure for strategic economic development.
Recognizing the importance of infrastructure upgrades for advanced manufacturing and high-paying jobs, the ABG aims to stimulate creative solutions, including inter-municipal water agreements.
