Leon Rose and the Knicks continued to be aggressive at the NBA Trade deadline Thursday in an attempt to make a run in the Eastern Conference.
Per ESPNโs Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks are acquiring Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Quentin Grimes, Malachi Flynn, Evan Fournier, Ryan Arcidiacono and two second-round picks.
The Knicks donโt surrender any first-round picks in the deal.
โThe only thing the Knicks were missing was depth, and right now theyโre deeper than the Pacific Ocean, and the Eastern Conference needs to get life jackets, including the Boston Celtics,โ Kendrick Perkins said on โNBA Today.โ
โThis New York Knicks team is a legit title contender this season.โ
The Knicks are clearly focused on trying to go as deep as possible in the Jalen Brunson-Julius Randle era while trading away their onetime youth movement of Grimes, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin.
โGood deal [for the Knicks] — adds scoring, shooting and playoff veteran savvy,โ one league source told NJ Advance Media. โThibs [coach Tom Thibodeau] will do very well with this roster.โ
The 6-foot-7 Bogdanovic is averaging 20.2 points while shooting 41% from beyond the arc for the Pistons. He adds another wing scorer — he had three games of 30+ points in January — even if heโs not known for his defense.
โTo the Knicks fans, you are not getting a 20-point-a-game scorer for the Knicks, especially when Julius Randle comes [back],โ Richard Jefferson said on โNBA Today.โ โYou are getting a guy that will be extremely efficient, 15, 17, heโll hit 20s.โ
The 6-5 Burks averages 12.6 points and is shooting 40% from deep. He previously played for the Knicks from 2020-22.
Fournier is on an expiring contract and was not in Thibodeauโs rotation, while Flynn and Arcidiacono were not key players, either.
