Procession honors 8-year-old Staten Island boy who died after valiant battle with cancer

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Scores of attendees stood side-by-side in front of Harmon Funeral Home in West Brighton Saturday morning to pay their respects to Donald โ€œPromiseโ€ Morgan, an 8-year-old Staten Island boy who tragically passed away from cancer.

Several NYPD vehicles scattered across the intersection of Forest Avenue and Davis Avenue and an FDNY truck oversaw the procession from across the street. Multiple motorbikes lined the outside of the funeral home, among the operators, bikers from Rocco Strong Inc. and Child Abuse Prevention Organization (C.A.P.O).

White balloons dotted the front of the funeral home, held by those who were united in love for the young boy.

When the time had come for Donald to be carried out of the funeral home, prayers were said, traffic was stopped. All stood at attention when the funeral doors opened and police officers donned in Class A attire, who were serving as pallbearers, carried Donald to his escort.

The hum of the motorbike engines provided the backdrop to a resounding bagpipe that echoed over all. Tears were shed, hugs were shared and white balloons were released.

The NYPD proceeded to guide the escort to Donaldโ€™s final resting place at Rosehill Cemetery and Crematory in Linden, N.J. A seemingly endless wave of bikes and cars followed suit.

Passersby pondered who the procession was for, many stopping to pay respects in their own way.

It was a sendoff fit for a warrior, and a warrior he was.
