On February 8 families in the Romulus Central School District were notified that Principal Christopher Puylara is “not in the office or available through school email.”
FingerLakes1.com obtained the notification, which went out at 10:04 a.m. from Superintendent Martin Rotz after reports that Puylara was placed on administrative leave.
Parents in the district are instructed to contact Rotz for matters related to 9-12 grade students.
No additional context was provided, nor any timeline for Puylara’s return.
The longtime principal was named multiple times in a staff survey, which was critical of his leadership. While staff expected the survey findings to be released, or at least shared with the school community — it was instead withheld.
At time of publishing the findings from the survey, which FingerLakes1.com obtained multiple copies after community frustration boiled over at last month’s Board of Education meeting, the District said it could not comment on personnel matters.
The school board is set to hold another meeting on Tuesday, and as of publishing this update — administrators nor board of education responded to a request for comment.
This story will be updated as new information or statements are made available.
Here’s the full-statement sent out to Romulus families:
