The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Newark man after he took a vehicle illegally and caused a car accident.
Deputies say Chad J. Welsher, a 46-year-old took a family member’s vehicle without permission, then drove while intoxicated. He was later involved in a one-car collision on Beam Hill Road in the Town of Sodus.
The charges against Welsher are extensive, including aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, DWI, operating a vehicle without a license, refusal to submit to a chemical test, operating a vehicle without an interlock device, and moving from his lane unsafely.
These allegations came to light after deputies were dispatched to the scene of the collision in Sodus, where it was determined Welsher was driving under the influence.
Following his arrest, Welsher was processed at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and then transported to Wayne County Jail.
