Syracuse, N.Y. — High winds are expected to roar across Upstate New York Thursday and Friday, with gusts reaching as high as 50 mph.
The winds will be so strong whipping across Lake Ontario that waves of up to 16 feet high could crash into the eastern shore.
The National Weather Service has issued wind advisories for most of Upstate New York from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning.
โGusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few isolated power outages may result,โ the weather service said. โTravel in high profile vehicles may be difficult.โ
Waves could be 12 to 16 feet high on Lake Ontario from Mexico Bay — near Pulaski — to the Saint Lawrence River.
โStrong winds will cause hazardous waves, which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility,โ according to the watch.
