Syracuse, N.Y. — Two people were displaced from a Syracuse apartment Wednesday night after a fire left substantial damage to the home, firefighters said.
Firefighters were called at 11:04 p.m. to 204 S. Alvord St., where they saw smoke coming from a rear apartment, said Deputy Chief Zach Smith.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, Smith said. Crews had to cut a hole in the roof for ventilation and there appeared to be structural issues with the building, he said.
A dog and four to six cats were safely taken out from both apartments, Smith said.
