The National Weather Service issued a report at 2:46 a.m. on Friday for blowing snow until 6 a.m. for Oswego, Jefferson and Lewis counties.
“A band of heavy lake effect snow and blowing snow will produce near whiteout conditions with visibility below a quarter mile at times. This band will mainly be located across Oswego and southern Lewis counties this morning. Snowfall rates up to 2 inches per hour can be expected on southern portions of the Tug Hill Plateau. This will result in extremely poor travel conditions on Interstate 81 between Central Square and Adams and on the Tug Hill Plateau. The snow will taper off mid to late morning, with diminishing snowfall rates and winds. Travel through heavy snow should be delayed or avoided if at all possible,” states the weather service.
