STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Just days after Staten Island the rest of the five boroughs of New York City saw their first significant snow accumulation in years, a bit more of the white stuff could be heading our way this weekend.
The Advance reported that a fast-moving “Alberta clipper” storm out of Canada was expected to deal the city a glancing blow on Thursday night.
While the storm was predicted to bring just a few, fleeting rain and/or snow showers to our area in the overnight hours, it was expected to also bring windy, blustery conditions.
And while the city was expected to be spared significant snow, other parts of the state were expected get upwards of 11 inches of the white stuff.
Another clipper storm is predicted to follow right on the heels of Thursday’s storm.
This system, which will arrive overnight on Friday, is expected to leave maybe a coating or an inch of snow in its wake by early Saturday morning in the five boroughs.
Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., are expected to get 1 to 3 inches of snow from this system.
Closer to Staten Island, the Advance reported that the Au Bon Pain eatery in the St. George Ferry Terminal had closed last weekend.
The city Economic Development Corp., which manages the ferry terminal, said that Au Bon Pain had closed permanently and that the space would be shortly offered for lease.
It was the third store closure in the ferry terminal in recent weeks, following the shuttering of a Dairy Queen and a neighboring newsstand/coffee spot.
