In Cayuga County Court, former Throop town supervisor William Tarby, 59, was sentenced Thursday for stealing nearly $11,000 from the town.
Following his admission of guilt to charges of fourth-degree grand larceny and official misconduct, Tarby has been mandated to make full restitution and is barred from seeking any future public office.
The investigation, initiated by current Supervisor Eric Ridley and conducted by the office of state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, uncovered Tarby’s misuse of funds between 2017 and 2019, including unauthorized withdrawals and personal retention of funds meant for the town.
The New York State Attorney General’s Office prosecuted the case, marking a significant breach of trust within the small municipality. Supervisor Ridley assured measures have been taken to prevent such incidents from recurring.
