Ice at Canalside season winds down with final two weekends of activities

The Buffalo Waterfront will host several special events and activities as the Ice at Canalside winds down for the final two weekends of the 2023-2024 winter season.

The last day of skating at the ice rink will be Feb. 25.

The annual Ice Fest is scheduled for Saturday and will feature ice sculptures, a live snow sculpture demonstration, an ice bar, DJ,ย special promotions and, from 7 to 10 p.m., open curling, with instructions from the Buffalo Curling Club.

Sunday will feature a family-fun day with sculptures, a visit from the Snow Sisters, free cotton candy and an ice mimosa bar for the adults.

In honor of Black History Month, pop-up shops featuring Black-owned businesses will be in the igloos at the ice rink throughout the weekend. Colored Girls Bike Too will also set up a table at the rink this weekend.

For the next two Sundays, $1 from each admission fee will benefit an organization dedicated to the advancement of Buffaloโ€™s Black community. In addition, anyone who brings a piece of winter clothing to donate to Ladies Letโ€™s Be Real will receive a free skate rental.

During winter break for students, the ice rink will be openย from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 25.

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield will offer free skating for all guests fromย 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, with free curling available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The final weekend celebration will include Pride Night at the Ice on Friday, and a Silent Disco on Feb. 24. A final family fund day will cap the season on Feb. 25.
