A man was killed in a crash on the Cross Bronx Expressway early Friday morning, resulting in major closures and traffic delays as police investigated the incident.
According to the NYPD, the 38-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Trax when he crashed into the back of a tractor trailer just before 2 a.m. near Jerome Avenue.
Both vehicles were headed northbound on the busy thoroughfare, and police said the tractor trailer was stopped due to heavy traffic when the crash occurred.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.
The 49-year-old driver of the tractor trailer stayed on scene, and police did not make any arrests.
A section of the northbound side of the expressway was closed immediately after the accident as police investigated. It was unclear when the road would fully reopen. New York Cityโs emergency notification system was reporting heavy delays as Friday morningโs commute began.
Investigators were still working to determine what other factors may have caused the collision.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
