A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 6:04 p.m. for lake effect snow until 7 p.m. for Oneida, Onondaga and Madison counties.
“At 6:02 p.m., a lake effect snow band was stretched across northern Onondaga County into southern Oneida County. Several embedded heavier snow showers will impact the Syracuse and Utica areas over the next hour or two, dropping visibility to less than a half mile at times,” according to the weather service.
The warning is for Syracuse, Utica, Clay, Rome, Cicero, De Witt, Lysander, Sullivan, Van Buren and Oneida. This includes the following highway exits: interstate 90 between 31 and 39. New York Interstate 81 between 17 and 31.
The weather service adds, “Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.”
