The Geneva Fire Department’s Nester Hose Company honored Assistant Chief Kevin Powers for his remarkable service during their 138th annual banquet held on February 3. The event, celebrated at the Sons and Daughters of Italy lodge, recognized Powers for his 61 years of dedication as assistant chief, alongside his 55 years as the company’s treasurer. Powers, at the age of 89, humorously remarked on his ongoing commitment to responding to calls.
In addition to Powers’ recognition, the banquet celebrated four 50-year members—Mike Updike, Gordy Eddington, Bill Coffey, and Jeff McDonald, with Updike in attendance to receive his honors. They were awarded Gold Lapel Pins and certificates from both the Firefighter’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) and the City of Geneva. Similarly, 25-year members Mark Champlin, Rick Rhinehart, and Jayson Lamson were acknowledged for their service with Gold Lapel Pins and Life Membership Cards.
The event, filled with gratitude and camaraderie, also highlighted the Top 10 firefighters for their active participation in responding to calls, training, and department activities. Chief Del Parrotta and other distinguished guests, including Deputy Fire Chief Mike Bucklin and Ontario County Sheriff Dave Cirencione, expressed their appreciation for the members’ contributions to the community and the fire department, underscoring the evening’s theme of service and dedication.
