Hamburg police identify officer who killed woman

Hamburg town police identified the officer who fired the shot that killed a woman inside a house on McKinley Parkway Feb. 2 as a six-year veteran of the department.

Sean Gregoire fired his weapon, according to the Police Department. He remains on paid administrative leave, which is standard in critical incident cases .

Town of Hamburg Police Chief Peter Dienes offered details about the incident surrounding the shooting andย shared several reasons why he believes the officer’s shooting of a suspect was justified.

Gregoire and two other officers who initially responded to the original burglary in progress call were interviewed last week by an assistant attorney general and investigators from the Attorney General’s Office. The attorney general is mandated to investigate the incident because of its serious nature.

“The Town of Hamburg Police Department and all three officers are continuing to cooperate with the attorneys general’s investigation,” the news release said. “Given the scope of the investigation it is anticipated it will take some time before the results are released publicly by the AG’s office.”
