STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As a way to celebrate 60 years of high school musical theatre on Staten Island, The Minty Organization for the Performing Arts, the not-for-profit that oversees The Minty Awards, will host the Minty Awards Dinner Gala March 7 at 7 p.m. in Nicotra’s Ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The 2024 Minty Awards Dinner Gala honorees are Diane Zerega, who’ll receive the Carl William Lesch Educator Award; Phil Colgan, the Distinguished Alumni Award; Al Lambert, the Community Enrichment Award, and Bishop John J. O’Hara, the Spirit of St. Genesius Award.
Recipients of the St. Genesius Prize are Madison Burkhart, St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School; Emma Fitzgerald, Moore Catholic, and Carmine Sortino, St. Joseph by-the-Sea.
As part of the 60th anniversary celebration, The Minty Awards will honor the first casts from each school’s musicals:
2024 Outstanding Shows: “Oklahoma!” St. Peter’s Boys HS (1964), “The Boy Friend” Moore Catholic (1965), “Fiorello!” Msgr. Farrell (1967) “Bye, Bye, Birdie” St. Joseph Hill (1971), “Oklahoma!” St. John Villa (1973), “Babes in Arms” Notre Dame Academy (1974), “The Sound of Music” St. Joseph by-the-Sea (1974). Cast members from these productions will be recognized.
“The extraordinary rich history of musical theatre in our schools and communities is ever present with this year’s honorees,” said Minty Organization Vice-President Jessica Caracciolo Malia. “We’re thrilled to once again recognize educators, alumni and community leaders that embody the spirit of the Minty Awards. We are so grateful to all those that continue to support our students in the arts.”
Minty Awards Dinner Gala educational programming sponsors are the Wagner College Department of Youth and Community Development, City Councilman Joe Borelli and City Councilman David M. Carr.
The presenting sponsor is Northfield Bank, and the Gold Sponsor is Empire State Bank.
