ALBANY- A state program focused on rehousing individuals experiencing homelessness has been expanded to include Orange and Dutchess Counties, bringing additional resources to the region at a time when homelessness is on the rise. The “Safe Operations Support” (SOS) initiative, administered by the Office of Mental Health, has already helped 330 individuals throughout the state find stable housing.
“Chronic homelessness is not an issue confined to one region of our state, and we must ensure effective programs reach far and wide,” Hochul said. “By establishing Safe Options Supports teams throughout the state and more widely recognizing the link between homelessness and behavioral health challenges, we can help more individuals living with unmet mental health needs find stability.”
An intervention team dedicated to the Hudson Valley will connect vulnerable individuals, many of whom struggle with mental illness and are in crisis, with housing and mental health services.
